Harley-Davidson Maintenance: 1,000 Miles

Fierst on your motorcycle maintenance schedule is a thorough inspection at the 1,000-mile mark. At this time, certified Harley-Davidson technicians will take your bike out for a road test and ensure that all systems and components are working as intended. The inspection will include the following items:

  • Check clutch adjustment
  • Change engine oil & oil filter
  • Check/adjust the primary chain
  • Inspect brake pads and discs for wear
  • Inspect fuel valve, lines, and fittings for leaks
  • Check brake fluid reservoir levels and condition
  • Inspect exhaust system for leaks, cracks, and loose or missing fasteners or heat shields
  • Inspect exhaust system for leaks, cracks, and loose or missing fasteners or heat shields
  • Check the tightness of all critical fasteners: hand controls, brake system, axle nuts, front fork components, riser, and handlebars

Harley-Davidson Maintenance: 2,500 Miles

At 2,500 miles, Harley-Davidson maintenance technicians will inspect key parts for signs of wear — like tire treads and brakes — and check all fluid levels:

  • Inspect transmission lubricant
  • Inspect brake pads and discs for wear
  • Inspect fuel valve, lines, and fittings for leaks
  • Inspect tire pressure and inspect the tread
  • Inspect operation of throttle and enrichener controls
  • Inspect operation of all electrical equipment and switches
  • Inspect oil lines and brake system for leaks

Harley-Davidson Maintenance: 5,000 Miles

At the 5,000-mile mark, your Harley-Davidson maintenance schedule includes some of the same assessments as the 1,000 and 2,500-mile intervals, and adds inspection of electrical components and structural elements:

  • Inspect spark plugs
  • Check tire pressure and inspect the tread
  • Check wheel spoke tightness
  • Check and clean battery connections
  • Check front fork bearing adjustment
  • Check ignition timing (XL only) and vacuum hose
  • Check operation of all electrical equipment and switches

Harley-Davidson Maintenance: 7,500 Miles

Harley-Davidson maintenance at 7,500 miles is the same as at 2,500 miles. During this service appointment, your bike will be inspected for tire tread wear, brake pad wear, oil leaks, and more.

Harley-Davidson Maintenance: 10,000 Miles

At the 10,000-mile Harley-Davidson maintenance interval, technicians will focus on parts that may need alignment, tightening, or lubrication:

  • Change transmission lubricant
  • Check and adjust the belt
  • Lube the speedometer cable
  • Lubricate and adjust steering head bearings
  • Check and adjust the operation of enrichener
  • Check stabilizer links and engine mounts
